ESFA e-bulletin for schools, colleges, local authorities and other 16 to 19 providers: 1 March 2018
Published 1 March 2018
Applies to England
1. Information: 16 to 19 funding: advanced maths premium
We have published information about the new advanced maths premium on GOV.UK. The advanced maths premium is paid at a set rate of £600 per year per additional student for one or 2 years, depending on the type and size of qualification studied.
The premium will first be paid automatically in 16 to 19 funding allocations for the academic year 2019 to 2020. For this payment, the number of additional students will be measured between the average of academic years 2015 to 2016 and 2016 to 2017 and academic year 2018 to 2019.
2. Information: 16 to 19 Discretionary Bursary and extended work placements funding
ESFA is making additional 16 to 19 Bursary funding available to institutions that are delivering extended work placements in the 2018 to 2019 academic year with the Capacity and Delivery Fund.
This one-off funding is designed to ensure institutions have sufficient bursary funds to meet any increased demand for help from students who may need to travel further to access their work placement or who have additional costs for equipment, subsistence and/or clothing.
An explanation of how the additional funding has been calculated is included in the explanatory note that accompanies 2018 to 2019 academic year allocations.
Information will also be included in the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund guidance which will be published in March.
3. Information: local authority recoupment 2018 to 2019
We’ve published guidance for local authorities on the recoupment calculation for the financial year 2018 to 2019. This guide will help local authorities understand how we adjust their funding when schools convert to academies.
We’ll update the published 2018 to 2019 dedicated schools grant (DSG) allocations before the new financial year to include initial recoupment.
If you have any questions please use our online enquiry form.
4. Information: ESFA Information Exchange survey
We’re conducting a user satisfaction survey on the Information Exchange and would like to hear about your experiences using the service. This will help us make improvements and prioritise future development.
The survey should only take a few minutes, your responses are completely anonymous and no personal information is collected. The survey closes at midnight on 9 March 2018.
5. Information: expression of interest for agency supply teacher commercial framework
The Department for Education is working with Crown Commercial Service to develop a commercial framework for agency supply teachers to support schools with getting value for money when using agency staff. This will include a preferred suppliers list of supply teacher agencies, as well as preferred managed service providers.
The framework will bring transparency to agency margins and require agencies to adhere to standard levels of practice, including on the use of temp-to-perm fees. As well as supply teachers, the framework will also include the provision of other agency workers such as teaching assistants and cover supervisors.
The framework is expected to be available for schools to use from September 2018.
To express your school’s or trust’s interest in the framework and to receive further updates on its development, please submit your school’s/trust’s details on the agency supply expressions of interest website.
