1. Information: 16 to 19 funding in academic year 2018 to 2019

We have written to ESFA funded 16 to 19 institutions about funding in academic year 2018 to 2019 for students aged 16 to 19 and students aged 19 to 25 with an education, health and care plan.

We have also updated the 16 to 19 allocations timeline on GOV.UK. We update this page throughout the year. It provides important information about how we allocate 16 to 19 funding to colleges, independent learning providers, schools and academies.

2. Information: spring school census 2018

The spring school census 2018 begins on Thursday 18 January. The deadline for approved submissions is Wednesday 14 February and the database will be closed to amendments from schools and local authorities on Wednesday 14 March.

The ‘beta’ release of the 2018 spring school census live COLLECT blade that is available for you to become familiar with, will remain available until 4pm on Friday 12 January.

The school census guide for the 2017 to 2018 academic year is available on the school census website.

3. Information: traineeship in year growth window 2017 to 2018

As in previous years, ESFA will be operating a business case process for traineeship in-year growth (IYG) for providers with an ESFA 16 to 18 contract. The IYG window will open after the R06 data return closes on 6 February 2018. Providers will have until 28 February 2018 to submit a business case for growth through our online enquiry form.

For colleges and independent learning providers (ILPs) we will look at the R06 data return to assess how much of your 2017 to 2018 allocation you have used to date. For other provider types, we will use other latest data available. Provider business cases must include supporting evidence of employer support for additional starts in year, together with evidence of student demand. All awards in this window are subject to overall affordability. We will assess business cases during March 2018 and inform providers in April 2018, with growth being paid from May 2018.
