ESFA e-bulletin for schools, colleges, local authorities and other 16 to 19 providers: 29 June 2017
Published 29 June 2017
Applies to England
1. Action: Fire risk assessment and cladding survey – due Tuesday 4 July
Yesterday we sent letters to all ESFA further education providers requesting that you complete a short questionnaire on fire risk assessment and cladding. A separate survey was sent to local authorities and academy trusts.
The survey is an important part of the cross-government action to gather information from all organisations that receive public funding for education and training. This will ensure these organisations have the best possible advice for any precautionary measures they may need to take with their buildings.
Please ensure that you have received the message and that you will complete the survey by 5pm on Tuesday 4 July 2017. If you did not receive a message, please inform us by sending a message to Enquiries.EFA@education.gov.uk.
2. Information: Local authority Section 251 outturn 2016 to 2017 collection
The Department for Education (DfE) requires local authorities to submit their outturn statements for 2016 to 2017 by Friday 25 August 2017.
We have now published the 2016 to 2017 Section 251 outturn guidance. This explains how local authorities record their total dedicated schools grant (DSG) actual expenditure and any other non-statutory DSG actual expenditure.
Local authorities submit their outturn statements using COLLECT, DfE’s data collection and management system for education. We will open COLLECT in early July and confirm this in an item in this e-bulletin.
3. Information: Presentation to support the 2017 to 2018 funding guidance for young people - student eligibility guidance
We have published a presentation this week to support the student eligibility elements of the funding guidance for young people we published in April, for the academic year 2017 to 2018. This presentation highlights key areas of interest to institutions with 16 to 19 provision and can be useful when delivering presentations.
You may also find our overview of ESFA 16 to 19 funding useful, especially for staff and governors who are new to the further education sector. We will be publishing a further presentation, during July, to support the funding rates and formula guidance. We will provide a further update once this has been published.
4. Information: 2016 to 2017 R10 reconciliation statements for commercial and charitable providers
We have uploaded 2016 to 2017 individualised learner record (ILR) R10 reconciliation statements for commercial and charitable providers, (CCPs) to the ESFA Information Exchange.
The statement is available in the ‘Revenue Funding’ folder, under ‘AY 2016-17’. You can access the Document Exchange by logging into ESFA Information Exchange, and choosing the Document Exchange tab at the top of the page. For support and guidance about ESFA Information Exchange, please visit our support page.
If you have any questions about the reconciliation process, please submit your query using the online enquiry form.
5. Information: Customer engagement user research
As a newly formed agency, the ESFA is looking at how it engages with its customers; we want to understand your experience of engaging with us, identify what works well for you and where we may need to make improvements.
To achieve this we would like to talk with you directly through:
- brief one to one phone calls with a researcher (we will advertise dates for these next week and ask for volunteers)
- up to 8 face-to-face focus groups (locations across the country)
We are currently looking for volunteers to host (in their workplace) and attend the focus groups shown below.
Customer focus group | Date |
---|---|
Local authorities and academies | 10 – 21 July |
FE colleges and sixth form | 10 – 21 July |
Training providers (independent and charitable) | 17 – end July |
Employers | 17 – end July |
If you would like to host one of the workshops, please contact us at ESFA@education.gov.uk. We will seek further participants once dates are fixed.
Deadline for responses is 5pm Tuesday 4 July.
