1. Information: 2019 to 2020 growth factor allocations

We have previously announced details of a new growth factor in the national funding formula in the 2019 to 2020 NFF policy document and the schools block technical note. Last week we sent out two spreadsheets to local authority finance officers to support authorities in understanding the growth factor methodology, and in predicting 2019 to 2020 growth factor allocations:

  1. Illustrative growth factor calculations, based on a comparison between 2017 and 2016 census data.
  2. A version for local authorities to enter predicted October 2018 census pupil numbers, to generate an estimate of their expected growth allocation for 2019 to 2020.

We hope these will be helpful to support local authorities in their planning. For any queries, please contact kate.eccles@education.gov.uk in the first instance.

2. Information: publication of section 251 budget and benchmarking data for 2018 to 2019

We’ve published the section 251 budget data for 2018 to 2019 and the section 251 benchmarking tables, explanatory note and additional information for 2018 to 2019 on GOV.UK.

Local authorities can use the information to compare planned expenditure against national averages and statistical neighbours.

The section 251 budget 2018 to 2019 statistical first release data was published on 27 September.

3. Information: news teaching jobs service

The DfE has recently launched a new teaching jobs service, which lists school teaching roles.

The service:

  • is free to use for all state-funded schools in England
  • is free to use by all jobseekers looking for teaching jobs in England
  • enables schools to publish and amend job listings themselves
  • follows the widely recognised Job Posting standard to improve the quality of job listings and make them as shareable as possible

You can find out which areas of the service is live by viewing DfE’s blog. You can also see all current vacancies.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about the new service please email teachingjobs@digital.education.gov.uk
