2. Information: funding for academic year 2019 to 2020 for students and learners aged over 16

We have written to post-16 institutions explaining funding for the academic year 2019 to 2020.

Each year ESFA writes to 16 to 19 institutions to provide information on the funding of education and training for young people for the next academic year.

In November 2018, ESFA brought together separate 16 to 19 and 19+ allocations, funding and contracting teams within the further education (FE) directorate into a new post-16 funding centre. Therefore, this year there is a single letter with 2 annexes containing details for the 2 different funding streams.

3. Information: updated pupil premium allocations for 2018 to 2019

We have published updated pupil premium allocations. This update reflects the third of four payment instalments due in 2018 to 2019.

4. Information: financial benchmarking service updated with new 2017 to 2018 for local authority maintained schools

We have updated the schools financial benchmarking service with new 2017 to 2018 data for local authority maintained schools. You can use the benchmarking service to compare a school’s finances with similar schools. The service allows you to:

  • make a wide range of comparisons across different categories of expenditure, revenue and workforce data
  • choose the criteria to identify schools to compare with
  • produce customised reports

We continue to develop and improve the benchmarking service based on user feedback. Please complete our schools financial benchmarking survey to let us know what you think and how we can improve this service.

We have also emailed benchmarking report cards to local authority maintained schools on 10 December 2018. They were sent to the contact email address recorded on Get Information About Schools (GIAS).

Based on data from the 2017 to 2018 financial year, the report cards contain highlights of a school’s spending compared with statistically similar schools, in terms of levels of deprivation and special educational needs.

5. Information: T Levels action plan

The Department for Education (DfE) has published an update to its T Level action plan, detailing how the department is reforming technical education and developing the T Level qualifications for post-16 students.

ESFA has updated the list of providers selected to deliver T Levels in academic year 2020 to 2021 to show the pathway(s) they are planning to deliver.
