The guidance on related party transactions (RPTs) has been updated to provide greater clarity to academy trusts.  

A checklist of things to consider when transacting with a related party is now available, which will: 

  • help academy trusts consider necessary factors when transacting with a related party 
  • ensure transactions are justifiable and are conducted fairly and transparently 
  • ensure conflicts of interest are managed appropriately

Information: Update to the guidance on charging for boarding school provision

The Department for Education (DfE) have updated the charging for boarding provision: full cost recovery and rate of return, which sets out how state-funded boarding schools should manage and charge for their boarding provision.

The guidance was first published in 2015 and has been updated to ensure links and references to organisations are correct. There are no substantial changes to the advice in the guidance. 

Information: In-person training for school and trust business professionals

DfE are looking for trusts to host funded, in-person practical training sessions for school and trust business professionals (SBPs). 

The sessions:  

  • are available at no cost to you 

  • will run for up to 3 hours  

  • will be delivered by a trainer from ISBL 

  • are available for up to 30 attendees 

Register your interest in hosting a session for your own SBPs or colleagues in your region.  

The sessions available to host are:   

  • financial planning and budget assumptions 

  • human resource management (HRM) and flexible working 

  • leadership and leading change  

  • integrated curriculum financial planning (ICFP) 

  • professional development for SBPs 

  • communication and managing teams 

  • strategic planning and operational leadership 

  • procurement and collaborative purchasing
