1. Information: high needs place change notification 2019 to 2020

We have published the high needs place change notification outcomes that will inform the funded place numbers for academic year 2019 to 2020 in academies, free schools, further education colleges and independent learning providers.

We have also published information about how to query the 2019 to 2020 place numbers during the enquiry window, which closes on Friday 8 February 2019.

2. Information: additional capital funding for 2018 to 2019

At Budget 2018, the Chancellor announced an extra £400 million capital funding for schools in 2018 to 2019. This is in addition to the £1.4 billion already allocated this year to those responsible for school buildings.

We have published the final allocation amounts for individual schools and other eligible institutions. These allocations are for individual schools, although in many cases payments will be routed via local authorities, dioceses or multi-academy trusts for them to pass on to schools, as with Devolved Formula Capital.

We plan to make payments on Friday 1 February 2019.

3. Information: advice to schools and ITT providers recruiting non-EEA nationals

The government has recently announced changes to the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).

The Immigration Health Surcharge is a surcharge that some visa applicants must pay as part of their immigration application; whether they need to pay depends on the immigration status for which they are applying. An overview of the surcharge and detailed information about who needs to pay is available on GOV.UK.

The government has recently increased the Immigration Health Surcharge, which is now:

  • £300 per year for a student or Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa, for example £600 for a 2-year visa
  • £400 per year for all other visa and immigration applications, for example £2,000 for a 5-year visa

Full details about the amounts that must be paid are available on GOV.UK.

4. Information: national deal for agency supply teachers

On Monday 14 January 2019 the Secretary of State for Education, Damien Hinds, announced the launch of an online tool as the latest development of the agency supply teacher deal.
