1. Reminder: claim deadline for the traineeship employer incentive is Friday 16 December 2022

The traineeship employer incentive ended on 31 July 2022. The online claim form will remain open until midnight on Friday 16 December 2022.

Any eligible claims can be submitted using this form.

We will use the 2021/22 R14 ILR data to verify the claims and where applicable R04 for any carry over learners. R04 will be the final opportunity for providers to ensure that they submit the correct data in the ILR to support any claims made by their employers.

If we are not able to verify the employer claim using R04 then the claim will be rejected.

3. Information: letter from the Education Secretary to the sector on the Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) improvement plan

The Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan MP, has written to the sector outlining her vision for the publication of the Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) Improvement Plan and her commitment to meet with families and organisations ahead of its publication early next year.

In the letter, she clarifies her commitment to improve the experiences of children and young people with SEND or in AP, within a fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable system across education, health and care. Ahead of the improvement plan being published, children and young people with SEND will benefit from wellbeing and technology support straight away, with new funding announced for educational psychologists and assistive technology. This money will continue to support the system to deliver change and continue to improve the outcomes and experiences of children and young people with SEND and those who need alternative provision.

To read the letter in full visit the Department for Education (DfE) Education Hub.

4. Information: IfATE’s revisions status report for November 2022

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) has published its latest revisions standards report.

The revisions status report:

  • shows apprenticeships that are being revised
  • provides a brief overview of the revisions planned for each apprenticeship
  • states the stage that each revision has reached.

Read the report on the IfATE website.

5. Your feedback: complete the Apprenticeship Workforce Development programme sector-wide survey

On 14 November the Education and Training Foundation launched a major training needs analysis survey, giving those involved in the delivery of apprenticeships the opportunity to shape the support they will be offered through the Apprenticeship Workforce Development (AWD) programme.

The DfE-funded AWD programme, initially launched in 2021 supports staff at all levels and roles delivering apprenticeships across Further and Higher Education settings. The second phase of the programme will extend support to employers involved in apprenticeship delivery.

The survey is crucial in helping us to understand the challenges currently facing those supporting the delivery of apprenticeships, including apprentice retention. Views from the survey will shape the training resources and support which will be given to apprenticeship providers, employers, and their workforces over the coming years.

We would be very grateful if you could complete the survey by 5pm on the Friday 2 December 2022.

Thank you for taking the time to help us with this.
