1. Information: the integrated financial model for colleges
We have published an updated version of the integrated financial model for colleges (IFMC) and supporting guidance on GOV.UK.
We are also hosting a Q&A webinar on Wednesday 15 January 2019, between 12 and 1pm, to answer your queries regarding the population of the new model. To sign up to attend the webinar, please email financial.model@education.gov.uk.
2. Information: update on 2020 to 2021 individualised learner record (ILR) specification
Due to pre-election restrictions on communications, we were not able to publish the statement of changes to be made to the 2020 to 2021 ILR specification in December. We will now be publishing the statement this month.
3. Information: qualification achievement rates (QAR) 2018 to 2019 – provisional data window
We will publish your provisional QAR 2018 to 2019 data tomorrow, Thursday 9 January.
All the data will be available through the View Your Education Data portal. There will no longer be any data on the Hub.
You will have until 5pm on Friday 31 January to inform us of any concerns about how we have implemented our published methodology. You cannot request fixes or adjustments to your 2018 to 2019 Individualised Learner Record (ILR) data.
If you have any queries with the provisional data, please complete a data query form, email this to SDE.Servicedesk@education.gov.uk and ask us to assign your query to ‘ESFA Business Operations QAR’.
4. Information: 16 to 19 funding allocations 2020 to 2021
We have updated our 16 to 19 funding allocations information for academic year 2020 to 2021:
- our timeline lets you know when you can expect your allocations. We update the timeline on a regular basis, so do keep checking back to see the latest updates.
- we have confirmed the data sources for student numbers and other formula elements we’re using to calculating 2020 to 2021 allocation.
- we have published the page where you will find information to help you understand your allocation statement. You’ll start to see more information on here in late January.

5. Information: review of end year 16 to 19 study programmes data for 2017 to 2018
We have published the findings of our annual review of end-year 16 to 19 study programmes data for the 2017 to 2018 academic year.
Our findings this year again show that overall, the national funding formula is having the impact we expected on the delivery of 16 to 19 study programmes in the vast majority of institutions.
Where we have found non-standard delivery patterns we have produced some advice and guidance in this document. Therefore, please ensure you read this document as it includes the actions that institutions should take to address these findings.
This is the fifth annual review we have completed to ensure that public funding supports the core principles of study programmes.
6. Information: Safer Internet Day 2020
The Department for Education (DfE) is encouraging schools and FE providers to engage with Safer Internet Day.
This year’s Safer Internet Day, which will take place on Tuesday 11 February 2020, explores the theme of identity online.
To help schools and colleges run fun and engaging activities for Safer Internet Day, the UK Centre for Internet Safety has created a range of free resources for educators.
These resources look at the ways in which the internet shapes the way that young people think of themselves and others. Tailored for each age group, they include lesson plans, assemblies, posters, films, and quick activities.
There are also resources for parents and carers to use at home with their children, including conversation starters, quick activities and more. Over 2,100 organisations were involved in Safer Internet Day 2019, building from just 70 organisations in 2011.

7. Information: advice on High Pressure Laminate systems
DfE wish to draw to the attention of building owners to advice on High Pressure Laminate (HPL) cladding, published previously by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, as part of its Building Safety Programme (BSP).
The advice is written for owners of residential buildings of 18 metres or more, although the principles may also apply to other building types.
