Details of the application

The Estates Agent of the Sandringham Estate has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Sandringham Sands Aquifer via Denbeck Wood Springs on the Sandringham Estate, Sandringham, Norfolk. Abstraction will occur from Denbeck Wood Springs at National Grid Reference (NGR) TF 70733 27318.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 45 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,000 cubic metres a day
  • 10,278 cubic metres a year
  • 12.5 litres per second
  • between 1 April and 30 September inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for spray irrigation. The applicant will use the licence to undertake spray irrigation of 10.11 hectares of onions.

The proposal lies within the Babingley catchment and the North West Norfolk Abstraction Licensing Strategy area.
