Details

This report presents the first year findings of a 3 year attendance mentor intervention. The pilot aimed to test and evidence effective practice for improving school attendance through individual support and targeted family engagement.

The process evaluation report aimed to provide evidence on:

  • the implementation of the attendance mentor intervention model in Middlesbrough
  • the feasibility and effectiveness of the intervention model in increasing school attendance

The research used a mixed methods approach and included:

  • 85 interviews with pupils, families, schools and mentors
  • analysis of referrals and pupil action plans
  • analysis of pupil attendance and wellbeing data, where available
