Details
The phased maths bursary pilot tested a new package of incentive payments. During the pilot, the value of the bursary paid to maths initial teacher trainees was reduced from £25,000 to £20,000. At the same time, two early career payments worth at least £5,000, and paid in the third and fifth years of teaching, were also introduced.
This evaluation used a mixed methods approach to assess:
- the impact of the phased maths bursaries pilot on maths teacher supply
- how the phased maths bursaries pilot was delivered and perceived
