Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir 150mg and ritonavir 100mg) film-coated tablets expiry date extended

This guidance is for patients who have been prescribed Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir 150mg and ritonavir 100mg) film-coated tablets. The expiry date of specified batches of Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir 150mg and ritonavir 100mg) film-coated tablets has been extended beyond the labelled expiry date on the pack.

This extension was approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) based on scientific information that extending the shelf life of this product will not affect its safety profile or how well it works.

The Department of Health and Social Care and Pfizer have confirmed that specified batches of the coronavirus (COVID-19) oral antiviral drug are still safe and effective to use beyond their current expiry date. The MHRA has confirmed it remains safe to take this medicine as instructed by your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.

Store the medicine in accordance with the storage instructions in the patient information leaflet.

As with any medication, you should talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse if you experience any side effects while using Paxlovid. You should report any side effects on the MHRA Yellow Card:

  • online on the coronavirus Yellow Card reporting site
  • call 0800 731 6789 free, lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. You can leave a message outside of these hours
  • search for ‘MHRA Yellow Card’ in the Google Play or Apple App Store
