New regulations apply to all UK organisations that import or supply packaging. The regulations mean that these organisations may be responsible for the costs of dealing with packaging waste. This is called extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging.
This document gives the initial illustrative base fees for year 1 of EPR for packaging published in August 2024. It gives a likely fee range for each category of waste packaging material and explains how the ranges were calculated.
These illustrative fees were a first estimate, based on the best available evidence to date before publication in August 2024, and are not the final figures. Defra has published an updated version of illustrative base fees for EPR in September 2024.
