First review of the UK-Cyprus bilateral memorandum of understanding, 2023: joint statement

FCDO Director General Europe and the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Permanent Secretary chaired a review of the UK-Cyprus agreement on closer bilateral relations.

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Director General for Europe, Peter Wilson and the Republic of Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Kyriacos Kouros chaired the first annual review of the UK-Cyprus Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 14 December 2023 in Nicosia.

The review recognised progress in MOU policy areas and the further strengthening of UK-Cyprus ties. This supports our shared objectives and helps to address urgent global challenges. The review also identified further initiatives to build on:

  • the close and historic UK-Cyprus relationship
  • our joint ambition to work even more closely on new opportunities, and on the basis of mutual respect
