Flexible Service Case Study: Lance Corporal Rosemarie Coetzer
00:04 – 00:06
My name is Lance Corporal Rosemarie Coetzer.
00:06 – 00:13
I’m a musician in the band of the Welsh Guards. The benefit to the unit
00:13 – 00:16
with me being on Flexible Service, is what I’m going to learn whilst I’m on
00:16 – 00:21
Flexible Service to bring back within the unit. I’m currently studying
00:21 – 00:26
a master’s in music, mind and brain, so music psychology. There isn’t many
00:26 – 00:30
people in the job that understand performance anxiety
00:30 – 00:35
and not at such a neuro-science level. So I hope to bring an element of my
00:35 – 00:41
course back into the job to help people that may suffer with performance anxiety and be able
00:41 – 00:47
to help others in that area. The type of Flexible Service I applied for was the 20 percent
00:47 – 00:53
reduction without having the separation allowance. A lot of my colleagues have supported it
00:53 – 00:58
even up to the top of my chain of command. My chain of command have been
00:58 – 1:03
brilliant with the support they’ve given me. We’ve worked closely together since starting with
1:03 – 1:08
Flexible Service to arrange in advance the days that I will be taking off.
1:08 – 1:13
She’s taking ownership of her career but also her quality of life
1:13 – 1:18
and other people will see this within the unit and will see it as a good thing.
1:18 – 1:22
Flexible Service will definitely retain people in terms of being able to allow
1:22 – 1:26
people to cut down hours to be able to do other things as well as doing the job.
