This position statement explains the Environment Agency’s proposals to manage flood risk by changing how land is used and managed across a river catchment.

The proposals include:

  • research into the impacts of land management change across a catchment
  • working with Natural England to maximise flood risk benefits
  • changes to agri-environment and catchment sensitive farming grant schemes to provide flood storage areas in flood plains
