FOI 1128-15 explains why some members of the diplomatic service receive an allowance to support their children’s education in the UK. It states that in 2013 to 2014 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) paid £13,162,823 Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) for children attending school in the UK and the number of staff claiming CEA in 2013 to 2014 was 378 for 604 children. In 2012 to 2013 the FCO paid £14,926,061 CEA for children attending school in the UK and the number of staff claiming CEA in 2012 to 2013 was 442 for 700 children. There were CEA claimants in all FCO grades A2, B3, C4, C5, D6, D7 and SMS in both 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2014. A list of schools is provided together with previous FOI response ref 1170-13
