Details

FOI ref 0167-15 explains that the FCO instructs external lawyers to conduct litigation in UK and international courts and, provide specialised legal advice. It gives the Legal Directorate’s spend on external law firms and barristers from financial years 2010 to 2014 but is unable to give the amount spent by overseas posts and other FCO departments as these records are not kept centrally and calculating the cost would exceed the limit set out in section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act.
