Freedom of Information request on mixing COVID-19 vaccines (FOI 21/1024)

FOI 21/1024

Dear

Thank you for your email.

The Information for Healthcare Professionals and Summary of Product Characteristics clearly states that the vaccines cannot be mixed between the first and second doses. This is not because they are necessarily dangerous, but because there is not enough data available on the administration of different vaccines for the first and second doses.

We also do not hold any data on the administration of a second dose of vaccine 7 months after the first dose. This is outside of the instructions in the Information for Healthcare Professionals and Summary of Product Characteristics.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide medical advice on individual cases, so I would encourage you to discuss any concerns with your doctor or pharmacist, who will be in the best position to advise you. It is a key role of the MHRA to provide doctors with advice on the safe use of medicines; however, the final responsibility for the clinical care of the patient remains with the doctor given their clinical expertise and knowledge of your medical history.

With reference to your further questions we are able to provide the following:

I urgently need below data for vaccine mixing I had AstraZeneca for first dose 7 months ago and then got scared now I want to have second dose of Pfizer can you tell me how many cases of adverse outcome when second dose was Pfizer ?

We are unable to provide details on adverse reactions which occurred after mixed vaccines as we intend to publish this. As we plan to publish the data, we consider that your request is covered by Section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act (information intended for future publication).

Could you please provide how many cases of blood clots were found in those after their MRNA second dose ?
