Dear,
Thank you for your email dated 1st of November where you asked about an investigation “into the matter of Mr Bourne receiving/awarded £30 Million in order to supply test tubes. Is your investigation ongoing ,if so ,does it include the former Secretary of State for Health Mr Matt Hancock.”
We are pleased to provide you with the following information.
MHRA responded swiftly to the allegations concerning Hinpack and focused on their medical device production activities in line with the Medical Device Regulations 2002 as amended. Appropriate steps were taken to ensure patient safety is maintained and our enquiry has been concluded. The MHRA are unable to provide updates as to the state of any referrals or investigations. This is in accordance with section 237 of the Enterprise Act 2002 (“the Act”). Section 237 of the Act, read with schedule 14 thereof, restricts the disclosure of information about the affairs of an individual or any business if that information comes to the MHRA in connection with the exercise of any function it has under or by virtue of the Devices Regulations.
The UK Medical Device Regulations does not extend to purchasing contracts. The MHRA continues to monitor the marketing and supply of devices on the UK market and takes action where a device compromises patient safety.
