Academy schools receive a grant in respect of VAT. How much was the total paid to all schools in the financial year 2008-09, 2009-10, budgeted 2010-11 (excluding new outstanding academies)?
How much grant is expected to be paid to the new phase of academies of outstanding schools? Does the grant come from the overall budget of the DfE or has their spending total been increased from a decrease in Exchequer budget?
Release
The total grant payable in financial years 2008-09 and 2009-10 was £24.48 million and £38.97 million respectively. For 2010-11 the budgeted amount is £54.39 million but this is provisional as allocations for September converters have not all been finalised.
These figures exclude new outstanding converters. No total is available yet for VAT grants for them because the number converting in the current financial year is not yet known. The grant comes from the DfE’s academies programme budget.
