Details

This guidance is for:

  • local authorities
  • school leaders
  • school teachers
  • governing bodies and their representatives

Early career framework (ECF) year 2 time off timetable funding is paid after the end of the summer of the second year of the early career teacher’s (ECT) induction.

This funding covers the cost of giving each ECT in year 2 of induction:

  • 5% off timetable for induction activities including ECF based training and mentor sessions
  • a dedicated mentor, based on 20 hours of mentoring in year 2 of induction

This funding is linked to the ECT and paid to the school who has registered the ECT as undergoing their ECF training at that school in year 2 of their induction.

Conditions of grant

This guidance sets out the terms and conditions applied to the funding for schools that signed up for and participated in the national roll-out of the ECF reforms from September 2021.

Allocations

We have published an updated ‘early career teacher (ECT) and mentor time off timetable grant allocations academic year 2022 to 2023’ spreadsheet, which details allocations up to December 2023. These updated allocations include the sweep up payments for all eligible schools and organisations which were not captured in the summer 2023 payment window.

We will publish grant allocations for academic year 2023 to 2024 before the end of the autumn term in 2024.

Payments

Academic year 2022 to 2023 allocation payments were made to local authorities for maintained schools at the end of July 2023 and directly to academies at the start of August 2023.

We made all corrective action and sweep up payments at the end of January 2024, which ensures all eligible schools and organisations not captured in the summer 2023 payment window have been paid in-year.

Allocation payments for the 2023 to 2024 academic year will be made to local authorities for maintained schools at the end of November 2024 and directly to academies at the start of December 2024.
