Future Nuclear Enabling Fund: successful applicants

GE Hitachi

The Department has identified GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy as a successful recipient of grant funding under the Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF). The application exceeded the quality thresholds across all 4 assessment criteria and successfully completed the Department’s due diligence and governance approvals processes.
GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s FNEF project includes a 2-step GDA and Enterprise Readiness activities including an Advanced Manufacturing Plan and Operator Plan.
The grant value is £33.6 million. This funding will support GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy in entering UK regulation and to develop their SMR design in the UK.
Holtec Britain Limited

The Department has identified Holtec Britain Limited as a successful recipient of grant funding under the Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF). The application exceeded the quality thresholds across all 4 assessment criteria and successfully completed the Department’s due diligence and governance approvals processes.
Holtec Britain’s FNEF project includes a 2-step GDA, constructability and safety case assessments and completion of associated technical deliverables, including those of the safety, security and environmental cases.
The project has total of £30.05 million. This funding will accelerate advanced nuclear business development in the UK and support advanced nuclear designs to enter UK regulation.
Cavendish Nuclear

The Department has identified Cavendish Nuclear as a successful recipient of an award under the Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF). The application exceeded the quality thresholds across all 4 assessment criteria and successfully completed the Department’s due diligence and governance approvals processes.
Cavendish Nuclear have partnered with X-Energy UK Holdings Ltd for an FNEF project to develop the Xe-100 Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR). The project includes constructability and modularisation studies, fuel management and assessment of the domestic manufacturing and supply chain.
The grant value is up to £3.34 million. This funding will support Cavendish Nuclear and X-Energy UK Holdings Ltd in developing the Xe-100 technology towards UK deployment. This funding is the first the UK government has awarded to an AMR technology for post-R&D commercialisation and business development activities.
