Future Security Challenges in the Baltic Sea Region takes the context identified in Global Strategic Trends 5 and the Future Operating Environment 2035 publications and applies it to the Baltic Sea Region.
The study observes that; being one of the world’s busiest shipping and energy transport areas, with overlapping alliances, European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Russian Federation and uncertain geopolitical tides following Russian intervention in Ukraine and Crimea, the Baltic Sea Region is of enduring strategic importance.
