G W Parkin & Son: applications made to abstract water

Details of the application

G W Parkin & Son has applied to the Environment Agency for four licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The applications are to vary licence serial numbers 2/27/21/357/R01, 2/27/21/358/R01, 2/27/21/359/R01 and 2/27/20/301/R01, which authorise the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising Sherwood Sandstone at Bilton-in-Ainsty, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, at National Grid References SE 47601 49926, SE 45150 51361, SE 47739 51159 and SE 46791 47170.

The variations applied for are:

  • to increase the maximum quantity of water to be abstracted each year under each licence from 30,000 cubic metres to 45,455 cubic metres, 45,455 cubic metres, 80,000 cubic metres, and 45,455 cubic metres respectively;

  • to increase the maximum quantity of water which can be abstracted each year under all four licences in aggregate from 30,000 cubic metres to 136,362 cubic metres; and

  • to increase the maximum quantity of water which can be abstracted each hour and each day under licence 2/27/21/359/R01 from 52 cubic metres and 1,100 cubic metres respectively to 104 cubic metres and 1,800 cubic metres respectively.

Further details are: the water abstracted under these licences will be used for spray irrigation of crops.
