Read how we came to the overall conclusion that we can issue a SoDA for the UK Hualong Pressurised Water Reactor (UK HPR1000) in the decision document and the 8 updated assessment reports.
The UK HPR1000 is suitable for construction in the UK. The regulators are satisfied that this reactor meets regulatory expectations on safety, security and environmental protection at this stage of the regulatory process.
Any developer making site specific proposals to use the UK HPR1000 must apply for, and get all the necessary environmental permits, planning permission and licensing before they can begin construction. We’ll use the work we’ve done during the GDA to help inform any decisions on applications for environmental permits for a specific site.
The Environment Agency has issued a SoDA and the Office for Nuclear Regulation has issued a Design Acceptance Confirmation to China General Nuclear, EDF and General Nuclear International Ltd, the partners in this GDA of the UK HPR1000.
