Details

This report uses experimental methodology to infer gender from inventor names to determine how many women are filing for patents.

The report focuses on trends over the past 20 years and provides a breakdown of female inventorship by country and by technology area. The role of female inventors, working individually or as part of a team of inventors, is also analysed.

The spreadsheet provides a copy of the raw data used for the analysis provided in the report.

The gender inference table for use in conjunction with PATSTAT is saved in a text file and compressed in ZIP format. Unfortunately, due to the size constraints it is not possible to save it in a manner conducive to easy reference. It is recommended that this file is imported into a suitable analysis package.
