Details

Generic Notification Service messages are a digital tool used by HMRC to communicate with customers. Generic Notification Service messages are sent in relation to many subjects and are triggered at certain points in a tax month when a customer (or an employer or a third party managing the employer’s payroll on their behalf) has not met their obligations in relation to Real Time Information (RTI).

This research study explored customer responses to Generic Notification Service messages sent by HMRC in relation to RTI, and considered:

  • awareness, access and response to the messages
  • how messages might be improved in the future
