This report reviews the present scientific capability to anticipate geophysical hazards in terms of location, severity and timing. It assesses likely areas of scientific development and suggests where to focus effort in the next 20 years to strengthen our long-term capability to reduce the impact of disasters.

This review was commissioned as part of the Foresight project on reducing the risk of future disasters.
