Global Conference for Media Freedom 2022: joint communiqué

Media Freedom Coalition members met at the Third Global Conference on 9 and 10 February, hosted by Estonia and the Estonian Institute of Human Rights.

Details

The UK, Canada and the Netherlands co-hosted the ministerial meeting of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC) on 9 February, in the margins of the Global Conference on Media Freedom. Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for South and Central Asia, UN & The Commonwealth Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, represented the UK at the ministerial meeting.

This joint Media Freedom Coalition ministerial communiqué was issued following the meeting on 9 February. It:

  • underlines the importance of media freedom
  • outlines future priorities of the Coalition
  • reiterates existing commitments already made by MFC members
  • recognises the important work of the Coalition and its partners, including the leadership of the UK as co-chairs of the Coalition
