Details

The Department for Education continues to work with its catering contractor to ensure it is meeting the government’s commitments on food procurement to ‘ensure that food procured by government departments, and eventually the whole public sector, meets British standards of production wherever this can be achieved without increasing overall cost’. Examples include achieving Red Tractor accreditation for its four national HQ sites in February 2010, and where procurement law allows, working with suppliers who hold certification to the British Retail Consortium Global Food Safety Standard.

The information in the spreadsheet ‘Department for Education statistics on food procurement: catering for the year 2010 to 2011’ is provided to meet Defra reporting requirements and show how the Department for Education is meeting these commitments.
