The government announced the Fan Led Review of Football Governance on 19 April 2021. The purpose of the Review was to explore ways of improving the governance, ownership and financial sustainability of clubs in English football, building on the strengths of the football pyramid.

The report was published on 24 November 2021.

The government is supportive of the strategic recommendations and accepts or supports all of them. This response sets out the plan for reform of football that the government is taking forward in the coming months.

Alongside the response, research that was commissioned by DCMS that objectively assessed the financial health of English football is being published, as well as letters from football authorities updating on their progress made on the Review’s recommendations.
