Tips to help consumers identify products and services with genuine environmental credentials

Documents

Details

The purpose of these tips is to help consumers to identify genuine environmental claims about products and services that they are considering purchasing.

The tips are designed to encourage consumers to ask themselves some simple questions when they see an environmental claim. Where possible, we would encourage consumers to be wary of vague claims and demand more information from businesses about their goods and services for which they claim environmental benefits.

These tips complement guidance for businesses that was issued by the CMA in September 2021, which established six key principles that businesses can use to help them understand and comply with their existing obligations under consumer protection law when making environmental claims.
