The Green Home Finance Accelerator (GHFA) competiton provided grant funding to support UK finance providers and other organisations to design, develop and pilot a diverse range of innovative finance propositions which encourage domestic energy efficiency, low carbon heating and micro-generation retrofit.
The objectives of the programme were to:
- support lenders and other providers to develop and pilot a range of innovative green finance products that enable home energy efficiency, low carbon heating, and micro-generation improvements
- develop capability among finance providers in the design, development, and commercialisation of green finance products
- develop partnerships between lenders, investors, energy efficiency, low carbon heating, micro-generation and property value supply chains
- support lenders and other providers to investigate and understand consumer barriers and motivators for energy efficiency, low carbon heating and micro-generation investment
- help to reduce consumer barriers to financing domestic low carbon heating, energy efficiency and micro-generation measures
- establish an evidence base to enable effective design and development of future green finance propositions and inform future policy development
Discovery Phase
The Green Home Finance Accelerator – Discovery Phase (opened October 2022) awarded a total of £4,169,227.42 grant funding to 26 projects across Great Britain.
All Discovery Phase projects had the opportunity to apply to progress to the 15-month Pilot Phase.
Pilot Phase
The Green Home Finance Accelerator: Pilot Phase (opened August 2023) awarded £15,370,414.69 grant funding to 13 projects across Great Britain.
All Pilot Phase projects will develop and pilot their innovative green finance products with homeowners across the UK until February 2025.
Programme delivery
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), supported by The Carbon Trust, was contracted to support the delivery of the programme.
