Details

The greening government commitments (GGCs) set out the actions UK government departments and their agencies will take to reduce their impacts on the environment in the period 2021 to 2025.

They set out targets for UK government departments and their agencies to:

  • reduce water consumption
  • reduce their greenhouse gas emissions
  • minimise waste and promote resource efficiency

They also set out commitments for departments to:

  • improve sustainable procurement
  • develop and deliver nature recovery plans
  • develop and deliver climate change adaptation strategies
  • reduce environmental impacts from ICT and digital services

The GGCs for 2021 to 2025 supersede the greening government commitments for 2016 to 2020.

We publish annual reports on performance against the GGCs.

Reporting requirements

The greening government commitments: reporting requirements document sets out the 2021 to 2025 reporting requirements for all UK central government departments and their agencies reporting against the GGCs. The requirements will help to ensure consistent reporting of the GGCs across government.
