This annual review describes the status of the Sellafield Ltd Groundwater Monitoring Programme carried out in the calendar year 2016. It evaluates groundwater analytical data and identifies any year-on-year changes in groundwater quality.

The groundwater monitoring programme is part of an integrated programme of contaminated land and groundwater management to protect the Sellafield workforce, the public and the environment.

The report also gives an overview of the programme’s regulatory requirements around radiological and non-radiological aspects of the environmental permits.
