This guidance is for both those called upon to perform the role of ‘appropriate adult’ and the person benefiting from the appropriate adult’s support.
Appropriate adults have an important role to play, both in the custody environment and the voluntary interview scenario, by ensuring that the person they are assisting understands what is happening to them and why.
