GUMCAD: clinical guidelines
Guidance for clinical staff in specialist and non-specialist services commissioned to provide sexual health services in England.
Documents
Details
GUMCAD is the mandatory surveillance system for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and collects data on STI tests, diagnoses and services from all commissioned sexual health services in England.
These documents provide detailed guidance to facilitate the recording and reporting of GUMCAD data in England for frontline staff of:
- commissioned specialist (level 3) sexual health services (SHS)
- non-specialist (level 2) SHS
It includes the HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) activity coding guidance and sexual health and HIV activity property types (SHHAPT) codes for the recording and reporting of GUMCAD data.
Please note that all NHS healthcare providers in England must now use SNOMED CT for capturing clinical terms within electronic patient record systems.
UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) will continue to accept SHHAPT and Read Codes in GUMCAD extracts until service providers complete the implementation of SNOMED CT. Both SHHAPT and Read codes will be retired once all services are reporting SNOMED CT codes.
