H20 Power Ltd: application made to impound water

H20 Power Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for an impoundment licence to abstract water from the River Trent (Newark Branch) at Newark Old Town Lock, National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 79505 53886.
The application is to abstract water through the new turbine as follows:
- 28,800 cubic metres an hour
- 691,200 cubic metres a day
- 252,288,000 cubic metres a year
- All year abstraction
The water will be used for the purpose of hydro-electric power generation via an Archimedes Hydroscrew turbine before being returned immediately downstream of the currently disused lock structure.
