Hallidays Hydropower Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Goyt at Stringer’s Weir, Vernon Park, Stockport, Greater Manchester at National Grid Reference (NGR) SJ 90858 90636.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 509,760 cubic metres a day
- 112,147,200 cubic metres a year
- At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 5,900 litres per second.
The water will be used for hydroelectric power generation. All the water abstracted will be returned to the River Goyt just downstream of the weir at NGR SJ 90860 90648. Hydropower generation at this site was previously authorised by licence NW/069/001/002, which lapsed on 31 January 2017.
