Hanson Quarry Products Europe Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a transfer licence to abstract water from underground strata (Limestone) at Shap Beck Quarry, Cumbria between National Grid References: NY 54766 18958, NY 54959 18965, NY 54960 18821 and NY 54771 18786.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 135 cubic metres an hour
- 3,230 cubic metres a day
- 1,180,000 cubic metres a year
- between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.
The water will be abstracted and transferred for the purpose of dewatering an active quarry.
Further details are: The abstracted water will be discharged to Shap Beck at National Grid Reference: NY 5521 1781. The dewatering area lies in the Eden Cumb Mid Lyvennet catchment, in the Eden and Esk abstraction licensing strategy.
