Details

From 1 April 2013, when the National Information Governance Board (NIGB) is abolished, the HRA will take on certain additional functions relating to the processing of confidential patient information, including:

  • hosting an independent committee to advise the HRA and the Secretary of State for Health on decisions about processing confidential patient information under the 2002 regulations
  • making decisions on the processing of confidential patient information for medical research purposes on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health
