Details

Heating and cooling installers will play a critical role in the transition away from fossil fuels towards clean heat alternatives. Training heating and cooling installers to install low carbon heating technologies, such as heat pumps, is vital to achieving net zero buildings in the UK by 2050.

In 2021, BEIS commissioned IFF to carry out research to better understand the current characteristics, activities, and attitudes to upskilling amongst the heating and cooling installer workforce in England.

This research report sets out the main findings of the study on:

  • characteristics of heating and cooling employers and their workforce
  • heating and cooling installer archetypes
  • experiences of and attitudes towards heat pump installation
  • training, apprenticeships and future skills
  • standards and accreditation
