2. Welcome and introductions
Tim Parker welcomed attendees to the meeting and gave the apologies.
3. Minutes and actions
The minutes from 1 July 2021 were approved and updates on actions were noted.
4. HMCTS audit and risk assurance
Nicky provided an oral report on the HMCTS Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC) meeting on 23 July 2021.
The Board welcomed the fact that the 2020 to 2021 HMCTS Annual Report and Accounts had been signed off and laid in Parliament.
Key areas of discussion were considered, including substantive items in relation to: Compliance and Assurance (covering issues that had emerged); Government Internal Audit Agency reports; the BAU Corporate Risk Register; and cyber security.
5. Rationale and suggested approach to defining recovery in courts and tribunals
The Board considered and provided feedback on the proposed high-level objectives to achieving recovery and the suggested headline metrics to track progress against these objectives across all jurisdictions.
6. Performance drivers
The Board discussed performance drivers in HMCTS.
7. HMCTS Board strategy awayday
Board members took part in a session in relation to HMCTS future strategy, with specific discussions around setting medium-term priorities and shaping HMCTS’s longer-term vision.
8. Any other business
This was Lady Justice Kate Thirlwall’s last HMCTS Board meeting before she stood down from her role as the Senior Presiding Judge at the end of the legal year. The Board thanked her for her valuable contribution during her tenure. There was particular reference to the collaborative working with HMCTS executive colleagues during the pandemic.
