Hochtief (UK) Construction Limited and J Murphy & Sons Limited trading as Hochtief-Murphy Joint Venture has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from from 2 separate underground strata Thanet Sands and Intermediate aquifer (Harwich Formation and/or the Lambeth Group) .

Thanet Sands: Within an area formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid References: TQ 32271 75895, TQ 32301 75928, TQ 32327 75887, and TQ 32299 75867.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 54 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,296 cubic metres a day
  • 473,040 cubic metres a year

Intermediate aquifer (Harwich Formation and/or the Lambeth Group): Within an area formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid References: TQ 32081 75960, TQ 32134 76036, TQ 32327 75887. And TQ 32299 75867.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 18 cubic metres an hour
  • 432 cubic metres a day
  • 157,680 cubic metres a year

The water for each licence will be used for Dewatering.

Further details are: abstracted water will be discharged to sewer at National Grid Reference TQ 32319 75878.
