Details

This report presents qualitative research findings on the views and experiences of participating DWP customers.

Research background

SWAPs are government-funded opportunities to help prepare those receiving unemployment benefits to apply for jobs in different areas of work. SWAPs are designed to help employers recruit a workforce with the right skills to sustain and grow their business. The aim of these pilots was to combine a bespoke, standardised programme of learning in collaboration with UKHospitality to assess whether DWP customers would benefit from gaining an industry recognised accreditation, endorsed by lead employers in the hospitality sector.

Contribution to the evidence base

This research compliments management information released by DWP on the wider delivery of  SWAPs as well as the qualitative case study research.

Research value

Research findings were used during the pilot to inform the delivery of support.  Where appropriate, the research findings will be used to inform further improvements to service delivery.
