Update: 21 December 2023

We updated this policy to include a temporary measure to enable small and medium sized businesses to access transition-linked working capital support from UK Export Finance. We will update the policy again once a permanent measure is in place.

The updated policy also reflects:

  • the name change of CDC Group PLC to British International Investment PLC
  • that the policy applies to British International Investment PLC, rather than being used to influence it

As of 31 March 2021, the government no longer provides support for the fossil fuel energy sector overseas, other than in limited circumstances. This document sets out how the government will implement this policy. Specifically, it covers:

  • what is exempt from the policy
  • guidance on how the policy will apply to specific areas
  • areas not covered by the policy

It follows a consultation on aligning UK international support for the clean energy consultation transition.
