Sailing with a broken terminal
Updated 5 April 2017
You must not leave port until you have informed the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) of your situation and you have been told you can sail on a fishing trip with a broken terminal.
You can contact the UK Fisheries Monitoring Centre to request authority to sail or to seek general guidance on reporting requirements:
Telephone: 0131 271 9700
ukfmc@gov.scot
For technical queries you should contact your supplier directly.
You can apply for authorisation in advance – you don’t have to wait until you want to depart. If you don’t fish for more than 24 hours in any trip then you can ask for an authorisation to cover a week (7 days).
MMO may allow vessels to sail with a broken terminal, if the circumstances of the failure and proposed solution are reasonable and that the vessel is able to provide the required information manually. Manual reports, if permitted, should be submitted to the UK Fisheries Monitoring Centre .
If you sail with a non-functioning system, you are not permitted to fish in the Norwegian Exclusive Economic Zone.
