We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following: 

 

1. In his recent submission to the Migration Impacts Forum Liam Byrne states that the number of ‘newcomers’ to the UK under the existing HSMP scheme was 17,100 in 2006-7. This figure apparently included dependants. Can you clarify that this was the case and that the figure is for the 2006-7 financial year.

 

1. How many migrants (and dependants) switched into the HSMP scheme from another immigration category in this same time period.

Please provide a breakdown of the immigration categories from which they switched (i.e. numbers in each category).
